THE WORLD WIDE MISSION
In February 2005, Brain “Head” Welch shocked the music world when he resigned from KoRn, a Grammy award winning, multi-platinum selling band, to re-dedicate his life to Christ and focus on raising his daughter, Jennea, as a single father. The announcement set off a media frenzy, as observers around the world sought to comprehend what led this rock star out of the darkness and into the light.
Originally from Bakersfield, California, Head found his calling at the tender age of 11, when he picked up a guitar for the first time, and he was barely out of high school when he helped form the controversial rock band, KoRn. The band quickly soared to the top of the music world, selling 30 million records internationally. The band was credited with being the major influence in the Nu Metal Movement. While with KoRn, Head won two Grammy awards and several MTV Music Video awards.
Along with all the recognition and acclaim, Head also became embroiled in the world of alcohol and drugs, which affected his personality, his relationships, his whole life, in a negative way. Eventually, he sunk to the lowest gutter he could ever imagine, as he needed the drugs to function in his everyday life. The very thing he despised in his ex-wife, when she left him and his daughter, had complete control over him
What began as a dream come true quickly turned into a nightmare. He made money, played huge shows, owned cars, houses, everything he ever dreamed of, but he was empty. He tried drugs, sex, everything to get pleasure out of this life, but nothing filled the void.
Even after going forward to accept Christ at a local church, Head went home and got high on crystal meth. Sitting there high, knowing he could not break the hold drugs had on his life, he cried out to God saying, “Jesus, if you are real, like that pastor said, then you’ve got to take these drugs from me. Come into my life; come into my heart.”
After a few moments of silence, he continued, “Search me right now, search my heart. You know I want to quit. You know I want to be a good dad to this kid. She lost her mother to drugs and she is going to lose me if I don’t quit. Amen.”
After struggling for a couple weeks trying to believe if God was real or not, Head finally had his answer; He had a real, intimate encounter with God that would forever change his life. Instantly, love from the Holy Spirit poured into him. The encounter Head had was so real and powerful, that he threw out all of his drugs the next day.
Immediately, Head resigned from KoRn, but made it clear to the music world he was not retiring from the music and entertainment industry. With his newfound calling, Head committed his life to his daughter and to changing the youth of this nation through his music and other entertainment ventures.
In this pursuit, Head wrote his autobiography, entitled, “Save Me From Myself,” which was released by Harper Collins Publishers in July 2007. Head gained further acclaim as a successful author, when the book quickly hit the New York Times Best Seller List (non-fiction). In his memoirs, Head talks, for the first time, about his shocking transformation through the power of God. He outlines his life during the tumultuous decade of drug and alcohol addiction, which eventually led him to his faith.
Head speaks of his transformation, “When Christ comes in, He gives you an understanding of life, which is that everything was created for Christ and by Him. We were created to be with Him. It is the most incredible feeling, because you are where you belong. Contentment is given to you in life, because you do not have to look anywhere else; you are exactly where you need to be.”
Heads debut album, also entitled, “Save Me From Myself,” is a testimony of his life, as he battled with drug and alcohol addiction, left KoRn and found Jesus Christ. His debut album is a heavy metal epic, with a message of hope.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
